Home / Enrichment Groups
  • The P&C funds a program to teach enrichment groups for each stage once a week. Using guidelines from the new Gifted and Talented policy, teachers nominate students to participate in English, Maths, Science and Creative Arts programs. Topics covered to date include “Electricity”, “Time”, “Problem Solving”, “Flight”, “Notable People” and “Advertising”.

It is exciting to watch the development of leadership skills, imagination, independence, advanced vocabulary, and problem solving strategies. The students are given the opportunity to present their completed work, and so the program is shared throughout the whole school.

Although not all students working in these groups may be gifted or talented by definition, their involvement in such a program allows the opportunity for them to further develop their thinking skills and build upon the curriculum content from their classroom lessons.

Students are also involved annually in a range of Gifted and Talented initiatives run on a district or area basis. Oyster Bay students have been involved in many such activities in recent years and have relished the opportunity to participate.
