  • Oyster Bay Public School Band Program consists of two bands, the Training Band and the Performing Band.

  • Performing Band 2006

  • Training Band 2006

  • The Training Band consists of students in Years 3, 4 and 5 who have no previous musical experience before entering the Band Program. Students are offered the opportunity to play Flute, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Mellophone, Trumpet, Baritone, Euphonium, Trombone, Bass Guitar, Keyboard or Percussion in the Band Program.

Students generally spend 12 months in the Training Band, however each year students who show outstanding progress are advanced into the Performing Band.

All students attend a tutoring session once a week with an expert tutor in groups of 3 or 4 students. During these sessions, the students learn how to care for their instruments, the basics of music and of course how to play them. They also learn a variety of music including their band music.

The students also attend a band rehearsal once a week as a whole band. In this session, the students work on performance pieces as well as continuing their musical development.

  • All students attend a tutoring session once a week with an expert tutor in groups of 3 or 4 students. During these sessions, the students work on increasing expertise on their instrument. They work on their band music as well as being provided with music to extend them to reach their full potential.

    • The students also attend a band rehearsal once a week as a whole band. In this session, the students work on performance pieces as well as continuing their musical development.
