  • There are six key learning areas in the primary curriculum in New South Wales. These six key learning areas are broad groupings of subjects. Each key learning area deals with the knowledge, skills, understanding, and values and attitudes that are relevant and appropriate for primary students.

     

    Subjects are organised in this way to assist teachers in managing the scope of the primary curriculum and to ensure that students have access to a well-balanced curriculum. The six key learning areas are:

     

    1. ENGLISH - Reading, Writing, Talking and Listening, Spelling

    2. MATHEMATICS - Number, Data, Patterns & Algebra, Measurement, Space & Geometry

    3. SCIENCE and TECHNOLOGY

    4. HUMAN SOCIETY and ITS ENVIRONMENT

    5. PHYSICAL EDUCATION, HEALTH, PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

    6. CREATIVE ARTS - Dance, Drama, Music, Visual Arts
